Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic also a speaker who is Canadian. Feminist Frequency is a site that hosts videos and commentaries looking at the portrayals of gender roles in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian as well as an American feminist media critic. Feminist Frequency, a web-based resource for education that examines women's positions in the pop culture narratives was the result of her research. She also serves as the director of operations. Committed to deconstructing the stereotypes that are associated with females in pop culture, she seeks to bring attention to the targeted harassment of women as well as other classes of individuals in the internet space. Sarkeesian who has a Master's in Social and Political thought at York University, is a well-known public speaking. She has delivered speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. As a university student Sarkeesian was concerned about issues related to gender equality and the rights of women in the early stages. It was a girl who wanted to create the series of videos on the internet which would explore gender representations in games. In the end, she ended up being the victim of online harassment. She was not deterred by the harassment, in fact it only reinforced her desire to become a media critic and feminist. Sarkeesian has been awarded several awards for her contributions to feministism.
